ORD operates 4 passenger terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3, and Terminal 5.

Role of each terminal at Chicago Airport

  • T1: home base for United and much of Star Alliance, offering smooth domestic and international connections across the UA network.
  • T2: focused on United Express; it serves as a bridge to the future Global Terminal under the O’Hare 21 modernization program.
  • T3: American Airlines and partners’ main hub, handling a heavy domestic schedule with strong connectivity.
  • T5: the multi-airline international terminal; after expansion, it now also hosts Delta, Southwest, and Frontier.

What happened to Terminal 4 at O’Hare?

Terminal 4 was a temporary facility used in the 1980s. Its functions were absorbed by Terminal 5, and T4 is no longer an active passenger terminal today.
